Maryam Nawaz trolled for outfit at son’s wedding
For the mehendi ceremony, the Punjab CM wore a yellow and powder-orange lehenga, followed by a traditional mint-green outfit for the wedding itself. Her outfit at her son’s wedding sparked a debate and even before the attention could turn towards the bride, netizens reacted to her outfit with some praising it and others accusing her of overshadowing the bride. Maryam Nawaz and her never-ending obsession to dress up/act as a bride,” one user wrote. Another commented, “Maryam Nawaz looks more beautiful than the bride.”
Several users were more critical. “She did it to the first bahu and now she’s doing it again. Self-obsessed, pathetic log,” read one comment on Reddit. “That’s the thing. The most important person in a wedding is the bride. Absolutely no one should wear better clothes than the bride,” another user said.
“So why she dressed like a dulhan?” asked a commenter. But another social media user praised her appearance, saying, “Every mother has the right to look most Beautiful at the wedding of her son.”
This is not the first time Maryam Nawaz has faced such backlash. In December 2024, Maryam Nawaz herself was criticised for wearing Sabyasachi at her nephew Zayd Hussain Nawaz Sharif’s nikah.
Shanzay Ali Rohail wedding outfit controversy
It was not just Maryam Nawaz who faced the ire of the netizens but the bride Shanzay Ali Rohail also faced heat online as he opted for an emerald green lehenga by celebrated Indian designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee for her mehendi ceremony held at the Sharif family’s Jati Umra residence in Lahore.
For the main wedding ceremony, Shanzay Ali Rohail reportedly wore a red saree by another prominent Indian designer, Tarun Tahiliani. Her decision to wear Indian designer outfits drew sharp reactions from Pakistani social media users, sparking a controversy with her designer choices for the wedding festivities.
Many criticised her for allegedly favouring Indian designers over Pakistani talent, particularly in light of her ties to one of the country’s prominent political families. While some defended Shanzeh’s right to choose what she wears, others questioned the timing of her decision amid heightened patriotism and calls to support local designers. Netizens noted Pakistani designers could have made something more representative of their culture and that the choice felt “mid” compared to local bridal couture.
“Very mid. I’m sure Pakistani designers could have made her something more Pakistani,” read one Instagram comment. “Shame on giving taxes to India,” said another.

“What’s this obsession with Indian designers? They drool over our Pakistani clothes and look at this!” a user wrote. One user wrote, “HSY, Nomi Ansari, Khadijah Shah, Zara Shahjahan, Faiza Saqlain, Bunto Kazmi, and Faraz Manan, Saira Shakira, Maria B., Sania Maskatiya, and Erum Khan. But they went with an Indian designer. Wow.”
Others defended the bride’s right to personal choice, stating that fashion should transcend borders. They pointed out that many Indian celebrities and brides also wear Pakistani designers like Faraz Manan or Mohsin Naveed Ranjha.
A third user stated, “To everyone criticizing her choice, I’m sure the outfit you chose for yourself at your wedding or in daily life isn’t liked by everyone. It’s 2026, can we all grow up and stop criticizing brides for wearing whatever they want at their own wedding, paid for by themselves/their family?”
