Today we’re visiting with Mary Danzis, who is sharing a creative container display from her garden through the seasons.
By stacking a series of terra-cotta pots, Mary has made a tall garden accent. Here, for the winter, it is decorated with cut branches from various evergreens, pine cones, apples, and the unusual green fruit of the osage orange tree (Maclura pomifera, Zones 4–9).
A different take on the winter display, again mixing branches, fruit, and pine cones.
At the top of the pot tower, a tiny bird hangs out in a nest, and kumquats bring color to the cut branches.
In the summer, the pot tower is transformed with a living display. Lamium (Lamium maculatum, Zones 4–8) brings silvery foliage at the bottom, while Calebrachoa (annual) bloom in various colors at the top.
The growing plants of the summer pot tower completely cover the structure under them, creating a tall vertical garden accent.
Here’s another winter display of cut branches.
In autumn, decorative gourds and berries mix with pansies (Viola × wittrockiana, cool-season annual) in warm, fall-appropriate colors.
