Mechanical Coating of Fine Particles


NineSigma, representing a global engineering company invites responses from consultants, academics or organizations with significant knowledge of Mechanical Methods of Coating Fine Particles.

Ninesigmas client is the leading provider of ceramic small grain materials (D =>2mm) for a variety of high temperature applications. Coating of these grains with different metal oxide alloys (see image below) enables improved structural and other performance characteristic of the ceramic materials.

The client has developed a mechanical process using a combination of mixers and fluidized bed technologies enabling even coating of the fine particles down to a diameter of 2mm. Current technology developments have been unable to provide high quality coatings for particle with diameter less than 1mm. This is because gravity acting on grains begins to be overcome by other forces like electrostatic interaction or adhesion/cohesion of binding agent. The prevention of agglomeration of the fine particles is critical to final product applications.
