Melissa Doyle discusses ageing and struggle to ‘redefine’ herself as she prepares to turn 52 – two years after being dumped from Channel Seven

Melissa Doyle will turn 52 in a matter of days.

And the television presenter says that like a lot of women, she has had to grapple with ageing.

‘A lot of women struggle to redefine themselves and fight with changes in their looks, and while they still have so much to contribute, they don’t necessarily recognise it,’ she tells this week’s Stellar Magazine.

Melissa says that discussing such topics on her podcast, Age Against The Machine, has helped her gain perspective.

‘Experience does matter, so it’s about encouraging them to redefine their purpose. It’s about saying, ‘OK, this is who I’ve been, this is what I’ve done, what do I do now?’ she added.

Melissa went on to say that having her children, Natalia, 18, and Nicholas, 20, finish school and reach adulthood, is a ‘bittersweet’ chapter in her life.

'A lot of women struggle to redefine themselves and fight with changes in their looks, and while they still have so much to contribute, they don't necessarily recognise it,' she tells this week's Stellar Magazine

‘A lot of women struggle to redefine themselves and fight with changes in their looks, and while they still have so much to contribute, they don’t necessarily recognise it,’ she tells this week’s Stellar Magazine

‘Every single day, every part of your existence has been focused on making sure they’re healthy, happy, fed, warm and hugged, she said.

‘You know they have to spread their wings and you want them to do it, and you know you’ve done a good job, but you just want to be with them because they’re fantastic and funny.’

Last month, Channel Nine announced the star  will be presenting its new observational prison series, Australia Behind Bars.

The anticipated eight-part series follows the harsh realities of daily life behind bars for inmates and correctional officers alike.

Melissa was one of Seven’s top presenters for 25 years, hosting breakfast show Sunrise from 2002 to 2013 and current affairs program Sunday Night from 2015 to 2019.  She was dropped by the network in August 2020.

Her departure was believed to be the result of the economic downturn caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, which hit Seven particularly hard.
