Much has been said about the Chinese ‘spy’ balloon since last week, so Twitter users are now entertaining themselves with imaginary “Mexican” and “German spy balloons” which have been turned into a meme.
For the unversed, last week, a surveillance balloon of Chinese origin was spotted over the U.S. Although the officials confirmed it posed no civilian threat, people expressed their concerns about its flight, which wasn’t interrupted by the government.
However, memes related to photoshopped Mexican and German “spy balloons” are all in good humor, and none has to worry about them causing any sort of damage – unless you are worried about falling off your seat due to laughter.
Mexican and German spy balloon memes explained
Let us make it clear to you that neither Mexico nor Germany have sent any “spy” balloons to fly over the US. The aircraft shown in the viral memes are the Internet’s imagination of spy balloons if the above-mentioned countries made them.
People have started circulating pictures of extremely creative and vibrant air balloons, claiming they were sent into the U.S. from different countries.
For instance, the one labeled as “Mexican spy balloon” is a picture of a colorful and vibrant air balloon, designed to look like a pinata with googly eyes attached to it.
And, another popular meme shows an aircraft in the shape of a mug filled with beer, which many users are imagining to be a “German spy balloon.”
So, we can confirm these memes are nothing but random pictures of harmless air balloons, which may or may not exist.
Twitter users get creative
Not only have people created narratives around the cartoon-looking “spy” balloons from different countries being sent into the U.S., many are also imagining what would fall out of them should they burst while flying in the air.
“I wish that we could focus efforts on blowing up the Mexican spy balloons as the probability for candy coming out would be higher,” joked one.
Another added: “Some dude said he wished it was a Mexican Spy Balloon so the candy would come out when you pop it lol.”
“It is funny It is a Mexican spy balloon piñata,” read one tweet.
“German spy balloon spotted above beer garden,” wrote one sharing the picture of a balloon that looks like a beer mug.
One tweet read: “Here comes the German Spy balloon. If it’s full of beer I am gonna be pissed if they shoot it down.”
Chinese balloon was real and big
The Chinese government confirmed that the balloons flying over the US originated from China, but it wasn’t intended to enter the airspace.
The nation claimed, the aircraft is being used for research and that its path into the US was created by prevailing winds. They then issued an apology.
Even though the exact size of the Chinese balloon wasn’t revealed, U.S. officials said it’s “sizable” and as big as three buses.
To put this into perspective, a typical city transit bus in America, as per Dimensions and Drawings, is about 12 meters long, 3 meters tall, and 2.5 meters wide. If the balloon really is the size of three buses, it’s probably 7.5 meters wide, and about 9 meters tall.
