GOOD MORNING F1 FANS
Lewis Hamilton claims the outcome of the controversial Abu Dhabi GP was “manipulated”.
Audio footage from the Brit’s car has emerged where the Mercedes man clearly feels Max Verstappen’s victory was orchestrated by meddling stewards.
Hamilton was gracious in defeat in the televised post-race interviews.
However, on the final lap when he was passed by Verstappen, he told his team over the radio “this is getting manipulated, man”.
Meanwhile, Mercedes have lodged an intention to appeal over the handling of the Abu Dhabi GP by FIA’s F1 race director, Michael Masi.
They had two protests overturned on Sunday night after the race by the stewards, who rallied around Masi.
Mercedes are now considering whether to continue to pursue their appeal in the hope of Hamilton being crowned champion.
They have until 7pm on Thursday to confirm whether they go ahead with their challenge.
If they do go ahead, it would cause a stink at the end-of-season FIA Gala in Paris on Friday night where both Hamilton and Verstappen are requested to attend.
Finally, Verstappen doesn’t believe his Formula One world title will be tainted due to the controversial end to the season.
When quizzed if he was disappointed to end the season with so much controversy, he said: “No, I’m not, no.
“I’m not disappointed at all. I think it sums up the whole season in general. It’s been pretty crazy for both teams. We gave it our all to the end.
“It [controversy] has been a big part of the whole season. It’s just been like that already a few times with protests or whatever.
“It is what it is. That’s racing sometimes as well. For me nothing really changed and we did win it on track.”
