Metal Gear Solid rumour says reveal is soon – may skip The Game Awards

Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes - not many games get two remakes

Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes – presumably the rumour’s referring to the first Metal Gear Solid game (pic: Konami)

There’s another rumour of a Metal Gear Solid remake making the rounds, one that says it’s PS5-only but may not be at The Game Awards.

With Konami reviving its Silent Hill series, fans are equally hopeful to see the company return to its other dormant IPs, particularly Castlevania and Metal Gear Solid.

The latter has always been a regular topic of rumours and speculation and earlier this year there were claims that Konami is planning on releasing remasters of the first three Metal Gear Solid games.

Now, the newest rumour claims that Konami is working on a full PlayStation 5 remake, one that will be formally revealed in the near future. Although that in itself is not an entirely new rumour, as no less than voice actor David Hayter suggested something similar last April.

The immediate assumption is that any Metal Gear Solid announcement will be made at The Game Awards since that’s happening later this week.

However, the source of the rumour couldn’t confirm if this was the case, meaning the announcement could happen sometime after The Game Awards. (Apart from anything the fact that Hideo Kojima, best friend of presenter Geoff Keighley, will be there could be seen as a little awkward.)

This comes from long-running Spanish site Areajugones, which claims to have heard about the Metal Gear Solid remake from anonymous sources.

While they were unable to ascertain any potential release date, they were told that the remake has been in development for several years and that an announcement will happen ‘soon.’

Areajugones has accurately leaked information before. Last year, it shared details on free monthly PlayStation Plus games ahead of a formal announcement and was the first to mention the existence of the red and black DualSense controllers.

Metal Gear Survive - Kojima is gone but not forgotten

Metal Gear Survive – Konami hasn’t so much as touched the series since 2018’s Metal gear Survive, the first and only entry made without series creator Hideo Kojima (Konami)

Konami doing a Metal Gear Solid remake does seem to contradict the remaster claims, but there’s also been rampant speculation of a remake of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater.

Only a couple of months ago, fans believed they found evidence of its existence at Singaporean studio Virtuos and theorised that an announcement was being teased for The Game Awards.

Between all these different rumours, it’s becoming harder to judge how much of it is accurate. Konami itself has yet to confirm anything involving the Metal Gear Solid series and there’s no mention of it attending The Game Awards in any capacity.

Considering all the long-running Silent Hill rumours and insider claims eventually turned out to be entirely correct, and given the company’s renewed interest in premium video games (it’s even remastering Suikoden), it’s entirely believable that Konami might be planning to return to Metal Gear Solid.

Whether it’s in the form of a remake or remaster is another question entirely. Whatever it is, it likely won’t involve series creator Hideo Kojima given his less than amicable departure from Konami in 2015.

Kojima’s appearance at the The Game Awards is expected to involve Death Stranding 2, although it’s always unwise to assume his plans can be accurately predicted. Especially as he’s also known to have at least one other game in development at the moment.

Snake Eater wants to eat your small change
