Six people are fighting for their lives after being shot at a park in Miami, Florida, according to police.
It’s believed that the incident happened shortly after 7pm (12am GMT), on Sunday evening.
Police said a total of eight people were hit by bullets when two people walked up to a crowd standing near basketball courts at Little River Park and began shooting.
The pair were seen walking up to the crowd before pulling out guns, opening fire and then running away, police have said.
Six adults and two juveniles were hit, one of those injured was a 16-year-old boy who was airlifted to hospital.
The other seven victims were taken to hospital by fire rescue, and six of the wounded are in critical condition.
Detectives have said it is too soon to pinpoint a motive, reports Local10 news.
“If anyone has any information regarding the identity or the whereabouts of these individuals that committed this senseless crime where there were adults, children, families, trying to share and trying to have a good time at a park on a Sunday before returning to school on Monday, please call with any information,” Miami-Dade Police Detective Angel Rodriguez said.
“My officers are on the scene of another tragic shooting involving juveniles. This type of gun violence has to end,” said Alfredo Ramirez, director of the department.
“We must work together as a community.”
Miami-Dade Police tweeted: “PIO is responding to a scene of a shooting with multiple victims in the area of 10525 NW 25 Avenue.
“Estimated time of arrival of 45 minutes.
“More information to follow.”
The force later clarified the ETA was for the Media Relations Detectives to respond, but officers are already on the scene.
It’s understood the fire service is at the scene alongside police and emergency services.
