Michael Archer, the 28-year-old son of R&B legends D’Angelo and Angie Stone, has publicly addressed the profound grief of losing both parents within seven months. His mother, Angie Stone, tragically died in a car accident in March 2025 at age 63. Just seven months later, on October 14, 2025, his father, D’Angelo, passed away at 51 following a private battle with pancreatic cancer. Archer performs under the name Swayvo Twain. He is the sole child of Angie Stone and D’Angelo, who were considered one of the music industry’s iconic couples of the ’90s.

In an emotional Instagram post, Archer shared his heartbreak about his father’s final days. He wrote, “I just sat here watching my daddy die after feeling like it was the first time he and I were truly building”. He also confirmed that D’Angelo had been a supportive presence after his mother’s passing, stating, “He was there when I needed him most after the passing of momma.”

According to NY Daily, while addressing the circulation of false information, he said, “I know it wasn’t meant maliciously, but I’m not in the right headspace today to make any public statements, and I hadn’t planned to.” He then directed all further inquiries to his manager.

In a separate statement to People, Archer expressed gratitude for the support he has received, stating, “I am grateful for your thoughts and prayers during these very difficult times, as it has been a very rough and sad year for me. I ask that you please continue to keep me in your thoughts, as it will not be easy, but one thing that both my parents taught me was to be strong, and I intend to do just that.”

D’Angelo, known for his groundbreaking work in the neo-soul genre, had been in hospice care for two weeks before his death.

“His son was there with him and had been with him in the hospital,” the source told People. “People are really worried about Mike right now; his mom died a day after his birthday and now six months later he’s burying his dad.”

Reaction to mother’s death

Stone tragically died in a car accident in Alabama in March. Archer shared a deeply heartfelt tribute on his mother’s passing on social media.

He wrote, “Hey mama, I ain’t want nothing, just wanted to say I love you. I know you up there enjoying your god body. I hope you got to see grandma and granddaddy. I want you to know how proud I am of the person you are. I want you to know how much you inspired me every single day. You never failed me ever, ever. You never were a burden to me EVER. If I had to do it all again, I wouldn’t change a thing.”

Archer added, “I hope to one day be as good to my kids as you were to me. I just wanted you to know that I got it from here, imma be okay… and imma LONG LIVE YOU 4Ever. Love you, mama.”

D’Angelo is also survived by his other two children, Imani Archer and Morocco Archer.
