Neuralink has demonstrated a video recording showing monkey that plays computer game using just its brain, through an implanted microchip.
The company behind this experiment – Neuralink – was co-founded by Elon Musk, who is known for his plans “to put computer in your brain”. The company currently aims to develop a wireless implantable microchip for reading electrical signals from the brain. Such development could obviously be very useful in managing various neurological conditions, including dementia and brain or spinal cord injuries.
In reality, such microchip could open doors to a vast spectrum of real-world applications limited only by our imagination. This is clearly demonstrated by the latest video from Neuralink, where a monkey plays game of Pong. The first part of the experiment shows how monkey uses a joystick, but here this device is used for calibration purposes only. The brain-controlled action starts from 2:15.
