Mike Tyson became a world champion at 20 and is still the youngest champion as of 2021. He also became a unified champion later in his career. But could he do the same in the modern era, against all the active heavyweight contenders?
Aged 54, Mike Tyson doesn’t want to belittle the current heavyweight punchers. However, he posed Anthony Joshua as a legitimate challenger for himself back in his prime. In an interaction on a podcast, Tyson shed light on fighting the modern-day heavyweights and sent several fans into a frenzy.
Speaking on a title unification against the modern-era boxers, ‘Iron’ Mike said, “You asked me this at 20-years-old, there’s no doubt. Yes. But you know they are really good fighters and I respect all their skills. It would have been very tough fighting though.”
Tyson further hailed Anthony Joshua and revealed why he would have been the toughest call in a roster filled with elites. ‘The Baddest Man On The Planet’ explained his pick and thrilled several boxing fans with his response.
The heavyweight great said, “If I was training Joshua, Joshua would be. He just has it all…If a guy has doesn’t have but and doesn’t know that he doesn’t have it is gonna do better. Isn’t that a trip?”
Mike Tyson- Will the heavyweight stalwart fight again?
Following his recent exhibition clash against Roy Jones Jr., several fans wanted to see him enter the ring again. Meanwhile, veterans like Evander Holyfield and Shannon Briggs also desired to fight Mike Tyson. But ‘Iron’ Mike hasn’t confirmed anything and is likely to go ahead with his podcast and other ventures for the timing.
After that, he might return to boxing action as there are several doors open and he can bag lucrative financial offerings by opting for the sweet science, once again at the dotage of his life.
How do you think Anthony Joshua would have fared against Mike Tyson if the duo ever boxed? What do you make of the former champion’s comments?
