Boxing legend Mike Tyson has urged the big, modern heavyweights to step up to the plate and fight him in an exhibition match for charity. The 54-year-old makes his return to the ring this Saturday in Los Angeles, when he takes on former four-weight world champion Roy Jones Jr.
Tyson has not fought professionally since he called time on his career in 2005 but the following year he was back in action, in a series of four-round exhibition bouts against Corey Sanders.
Meanwhile, compatriot Jones is back in action for the first time since beating Scott Sigmon in February 2018.
The pair will now get it on for charity and after vowing to donate his entire purse to th cause, Tyson has now made it clear he’s ready to rumble with any of the current heavyweights in an exhibition bout.
He told BT Sport when asked about Fury, Wilder and Joshua: “I think they’re brilliant. They’re brilliant fighters. They could do so much for society.
“They could have exhibitions and take the money from the exhibitions, because they’re such big crowd pleasers and they could help so many people.
“There’s so many people out there that we can do so much for, and it wouldn’t even be a 10th of their charitable heart to do something like that.
“In fact, fight exhibitions with me, and most of our charity would go to people who desperately need it.”
It’s not the first time Tyson has expressed an interest in fighting a current heavyweight.
When speaking to iFL TV earlier this year, Iron Mike made it clear he’s not scared of anyone.
“If doing that means we can have bigger charity exponents, well be it, I’m down to do that too,” he said.
“This is all being done for charity, and if they’re down to do that, I’m with it too.
“It’s entertainment, it’s just for charity – it’s for a good cause, but we’re giving our best.”
