Actor Eric Stonestreet posted a joke image to Instagram of fiancée Lindsay Schweitzer looking older after trolls hit out at the pair’s age gap
Eric Stonestreet has hit back at those who labelled him “too old” for his new fiancé.
The Modern Family actor, 49, announced his engagement to paediatric nurse Lindsay Schweitzer earlier in the week in a selection of funny snaps.
And while his social media post was largely met with congratulative messages, some people criticised their nearly seven-year age gap.
But funny man Eric wasn’t going to let them ruin his big moment and took to social media to say his piece on the matter in his own special way.
He hilariously tweaked one of the images from his announcement to make Lindsay look a lot older. Alongside the pic he wrote: “Apparently a lot of people think I look too old, as a 49 year old man, to be engaged to my almost 42 year old fiancé [sic].
“Look, she can’t help that she looks so great at 42 and I can’t help that I apparently look like her grandad so, I fixed it for everyone. #engaged#love#engagedlife#herlifeforever#imfunny#shesaidyestothis ”
Fans and famous faces took delight in his response in the comments section.
True Blood actress wrote: “Oh dear Lord. You are too much. Praise God she gets you!”
Sports commentator Bob Menery also praised his choice of ring: “Look at that rock ya stud!”
And TV writer Danny Zuker said: “You always do this to both your fictional and actual spouses!”
In his original post, Eric said his beau didn’t quite say yes to the ring, but instead he jokingly quoted her as saying: ““She said, ‘She’d have her people call my people’.”
Following the original announcement, a host of the star’s famous friends congratulated the duo, including Zachary Levi, Michael Bublé and Hilary Scott from the band Lady A.
The pair first met at a charity event in 2016.

In September 2017, Eric opened up about his relationship during a chat with Ellen DeGeneres.
Ellen joked that it’s good that Lindsay is a nurse as she labelled Eric “a hypochondriac.” And the two-time Emmy winner replied: “I’m a big baby, too!”
He added: “She calms me. She calms my nerves! I’m a very high-strung person.”
He had previously announced that he had tried his luck on dating apps before finding “the one”.
