Many people are making it one of their New Year’s resolutions to get fit for 2022.
And deal hunter Tom Church says there are several money hacks and deals out there which mean you can take part in some fun workout classes without breaking the bank.
Tom, Co-Founder of LatestDeals.co.uk, said: “January is the perfect time to shop around for a gym membership – and the good news is that you can often do this totally free by taking advantage of the free offers and special deals available over the course of the month.
“In the last year or so, there has also been an explosion in the availability of remote fitness classes and the quality of exercise apps has also improved to allow for those who now have different working schedules since the start of COVID to stay up to date with their health goals. With so many options available to fitness fans, here are some of the best deals I’ve found – and if you claim all of them, you can save around £500!”
Check out some of Tom’s top deals below…
Free Peloton – Get 2 months of classes free and save £26
Tom says: “Peloton offers a range of classes that people can take online, guided by an experienced fitness trainer.
“It’s ideal for those who want to workout remotely or who have a busy schedule.”
Classes include on-trend music playlists and cover a range of genres, from EDM to heavy metal.
There are cycling, running, strength training, pilates and yoga classes – plus much more.
The cost of a monthly membership is £12.99, but new members can get 2 months free to try out the service.
There are guided training programs and challenges to focus on specific goals, and Peloton will send a reminder 7 days before the trial ends so you’re not at risk of being charged if you aren’t enjoying it.
Turn Tesco Clubcard point into fitness passes – Save up to £15
Tom says: “Tesco Clubcard has a deal with Hussle, which provides access to a network of gyms, pools, spas and fitness apps across the UK.
“If you have enough Clubcard points, you can convert them into a £6 or £15 voucher to apply as a code on the Hussle site.
“This will enable you to claim a discount on a day pass or a monthly membership.”
He adds: “Some of my closest gyms cost up to £8 for a day pass and over £60 for a monthly membership, so this discount will make all the difference!
“Especially if you want to try somewhere out for the day – you would only pay £2 for a more expensive venue with a £6 voucher, or it could be free with this voucher depending on where you’re located.”
Claim a 14-Day free trial at Psycle – Save £14.50
Psycle is an online fitness destination which gives its members access to both daily live workouts and a library of on-demand classes.
There is also two-way training and coaching available with the Psycle Connect feature so you never have to feel isolated when you’re working out at home, as you have full access to the community.
According to Tom, Psycle is currently offering a 14-day free trial, and as its monthly membership cost is usually £29 you would be saving £14.50 in this time period.
You can cancel at any time so there’s no obligation to continue with a paid membership.
Try Virgin Active Online+ for 30 days free – Save £9.99
According to Tom. Virgin Active Online+ is offering new members the chance to try out its library of virtual fitness classes for an entire month, free of charge.
New classes are added each week and you can either schedule in time for timetabled classes or try them out on demand whenever you like.

4 visits for free to PureGym with Buddy Access – Save Up To £40
Tom says: “If you’ve got a friend or family member who works out at PureGym, you could be in luck as if they have a Plus membership, they will have access to the Buddy Access feature.
“This means you can get four visits a month totally free of charge.”
The service also allows you to take part in classes – which can include spin classes, strength training and dance.
Alternatively, you can ask your friend to upgrade to Plus for just £6 more a month and pay the difference in cost, or have them use the Bolt on to gain Buddy Access and pay just £4 a month – that’s £1 per gym visit with your friend.
As Day Passes can cost up to £9.99 a day, you’re saving £40 a month with these free visits.
Get Apple Fitness+ Free For 3 Months With Apple Watch – Save Up To £180
According to Tom, Apple has a deal for those who have purchased an Apple Watch, whereby they can claim three months of Apple Fitness+ for free.
Considering the usual monthly subscription cost is £9.99 per month, the total savings made would be £30.
However, these savings can be increased even more if you share the deal with family members.
According to the Apple website, the deal can be shared with up to five family members by using the Family Sharing feature. In other words, by having six people in total claiming three months of free Apple Fitness+ membership priced at £9.99 per month, you can save up to £180.
Free YouTube and Instagram Workouts – Save £30
YouTube and Instagram are a huge source of free workout videos.
Tom says: “My favourites include Adam Frater, TrainingPal, and Yoga with Adriene.”
He adds: “If you got a Google Nest for Christmas, not many people realise you get a free three-month trial of YouTube Premium.
“That’s worth about thirty pounds and means you don’t have to watch any adverts.”
Claim 40% off Nuffield Health membership or save up to £47
If you’re a member of the NHS or another eligible corporate employer, you may be eligible for a discount on your Nuffield Health gym membership, according to Tom.
For example, my nearest gym would be £72 per month for a 12-month Anytime membership, but with an eligible code you would be able to claim 40% off and save £28.80.
Alternatively, if you sign up for a membership this month you will get January free, paying only the activation fee to set up your account.
Tom says: “With my nearest branch, I would pay a £25 activation fee instead of the £72 monthly fee, which would save me £47!”
