The Labor Party’s only tax proposal heading into the election will be on multinational companies, says Shadow Treasurer Jim Chalmers.
“I think we’ve all made it clear, especially in the last couple of days, that we’re not going to this election with a proposal on tax beyond multinationals,” Dr Chalmers said.
Although the Coalition also outlined in last week’s budget an increase of rules around multinationals in order to stop tax avoidance, Dr Chalmers said Labor’s policies would “go beyond that”.
“What the government proposed in the budget was a compliance measure with the tax office,” Dr Chalmers said.
