A mum was left in stitches when her unborn baby “said goodbye to 2020” by sticking up her middle finger during a 4d scan.
Chelsea Furnival, from Newport, South Wales, decided to pay £70 for a well-being check on January 2 after being kept awake by her little one kicking her in the night.
The 23-year-old, who is 23 weeks pregnant, explained: “We went for a private scan because she keeps kicking me quite a lot, she kicks me that much I jump out of bed – it scares me.
“Because I’m getting bigger and she’s kicking more I just wanted to see how much space she had, she has loads, and to see her too.”
Thankfully for Chelsea and her partner Adrian Witt, 40, the pregnancy all seems to be going well.
The mum joked her daughter is just behaving like a “drama queen” – especially after she made a rude gesture during the scan.
In the hilarious scan photo described as a “one-in-a-billion shot” by the sonographer, the little girl appears to be snoozing and flashing her middle finger at the same time.
Chelsea laughed: “We were just chatting away and looking at the images and then all of a sudden that image just popped up.
“We all looked and she just had her middle finger up, we couldn’t stop howling, we were literally crying. The more you look at it the funnier it gets.
“We were still laughing all the way to the car because I just thought ‘how can a baby inside a womb already know how to swear?’ I was in hysterics. It was like ‘goodbye to 2020’.
“I’m going to put it on a canvas and frame it.”
Proud dad-to-be Adrian found the cheeky pose equally as amusing.
He said: “The sonographer said it was a one-in-a-billion chance of catching her like that.
“When I saw her doing that I found it hysterical. It was sort of a double-take moment, I remember thinking ‘is that really her middle finger?’.
“The sonographer just stopped and zoomed in on it for us to show it was definitely her middle finger and not her little finger.”
Chelsea commented: “Everything’s fine she’s just an active baby. She’s a right drama queen, she’s going to give me really bad attitude, I know she is.
“If she wasn’t in the perfect position we couldn’t have the 4d scan so I was hoping and praying that she would be in the right position and she was.”
The mum added: “She may have drama queen tendencies, but she was helpful when it came to that.
“When I had 4d images of Cody he never did anything he just slept and sucked his thumb.
“It was really funny, even talking about it now makes me laugh, you don’t go to a scan and expect to be sworn at. I couldn’t believe it.”
Chelsea said she believes her daughter will pick up her sassiness from her, and napping skills from her dad.
She predicted: “I reckon she’d going to follow me for the attitude and follow her dad’s sleeping pattern with napping.”
