How do you spread butter? Do you tip your knife deep into the container or run it along gently?
It’s a debate that’s proven to be very divisive on Facebook.
A woman asked the Family Lockdown Tips & Ideas group: “My husband thinks I’m weird, does anyone else scrape their butter from the tub this way? I’ve always done it.”
The post garnered 2,200 likes and 2,700 comments – and the responses were extremely mixed.
One responder wrote: “Doesn’t everyone do it this way or am I strange! I always assume everyone does it like this.”
Another commented: “Yep we do the same.”

A third wrote: “I do exactly the same and I don’t think I’m weird.”
And a fourth added: “Yes I do – and the same with my jar of peanut butter. I push it all down with the knife.”
But others were horrified by the butter spreading technique.
One responder admitted: “Nope – I glide over the top in even strokes, left to right. Lol this way freaks me out!”
A second said: “No. One side would be heavier than the other and that would unnerve me.”

A third wrote: “Nope!!! And this is making my head hurt! Why would you go in sideways?”
Another commented: “If someone dug out my butter like that I would go crazy.”
And a fifth added: “No, it has to go top to bottom, keeping it level with no gouging lol.”
