A mum-of-two turned her neutral rental home into a colourful property for her family to live in.
Natasha McBrinn, who lives in Ormskirk, West Lancashire, was given the green light to decorate the house.
As her landlord is a family friend, she was able to unleash her creativity and draw inspiration from her very 1990s TV shows like Saved By The Bell, Rugrats, and Friends.
The 30-year-old was quick to banish the basic colour scheme in favour of a rainbow instead.
She now has a purple kitchen, yellow living room, and a pink patterned landing.
Tasha contrasts these with black and white patterns elsewhere in the property, which creates a striking effect.
The family support worker began the dramatic makeover in January 2019 after falling in love with her yellow sofa, and wanted to see more colour.
Tasha told Manchester Evening News: “A lot of what I’ve created is from things just popping into my head.
“I think unconsciously I take a lot of inspiration from that process.
“The colours in my kitchen are from colours used in Saved By The Bell, Friends, Rugrats…
“I’m obsessed with colour – I’ve probably used every colour there is, bar grey, we just don’t gel!”
Tasha continued: “For the downstairs toilet, I knew I wanted a black ceiling but knew the whole space couldn’t be dark so I worked from there outwards introducing other colours as I went.
“In my bedroom, I had the idea for the paint drip mural and then the rest of the walls just came as I went along.”
Tasha, who lives with her husband, their newborn and older son, shares her progress to her Instagram account – @prettypocketprojects – where brands will send her items for free due to her large following.
Renovating on a budget, she says the bathroom, for example, cost just £50 in total.
She paints all the murals herself using tester pots, which will cost her around £1.25 each from Wilko, and uses vinyl to cover surfaces – so that it can be removed once she leaves.
The staircase was created using different coloured duct tape, where she created zig zags and swirls.
No space is left untouched as even her plain white washing machine is covered in a black dash print made from duct tape too.
On popular Facebook group, DIY on a Budget, interior design fans have reacted to Tasha’s colourful property.
She has received an overwhelmingly positive response from commenters on social media.
One gushed: “Omg I’m OBSESSED. Maximalism to the MAX!”
Another swooned: “My god, normally bright loud and in your face is not me, but this is so brilliantly put together. Truly amazing.”
Some responders did fear the vibrant decor would “give them a headache” – but Tasha doesn’t take this to heart.
The rainbow fan, who has bright red hair and wears colourful prints to boot, says she understands her designs aren’t to everyone’s taste.
She added: “The headache comments make me laugh as I have suffered with migraines since I was a teenager and I haven’t once had one caused by the house.
“I know it’s not everyone’s taste and that’s totally understandable, if everyone was the same and liked the same things the world would be boring.
“I know that my style is difficult to achieve right and maintain so I totally get it that some people couldn’t live with it.”
