Background: Expected to close on August 11th, Lennar sales rep calls me 4 days before to let me know 8-10 houses in the area were burglarized and had their refrigerators stolen. Out of all the houses, they left the fridge water connection to my house running and the house now has 2-3 inches of water. Went yesterday to visit and the water is still in the house so it’s been sitting for at least 48 hours. Flooded Home Pictures
After months of looking, we finally found a nice starter home in a good neighborhood. Single story, 3 beds – 2 baths (1500ish sqft), brand new Lennar construction. This was going to be our first home and the only requirement we had was that it needed to be a new build. We talked to our Lennar Sales Rep and they assured us that they have protocols in place to deal with water like re-doing the floors, gutting the sheet rock, ripping out the insulation, etc. Also talked to our realtor and she said that if they don’t cut corners in repairing everything, we should be fine. However, since this my first time dealing with something like this, I have no idea what to do and could use some advice moving forward.
Edit: Thank you everyone that took the time to read and give advice on the topic. As of now, we’ve officially postponed closing. The builder has hired a 3rd party water damage restoration company to do all the repairs and stuff. We do have a transfer clause in the contract that will allow us to transfer to another house within the same neighborhood as long as the model is the same. We’ll know more later this week but looks like everything is on hold for the time being.
