CODE, a multi-sport, subscription news site has been launched in Sydney by departing Newcastle Knights halfback Mitchell Pearce and his legendary dad Wayne.
Mitchell Pearce is doing his best to brush up on French ahead of jumping on a plane to Europe next month.
The former Knights captain shocked the game when he announced he was moving to France to play for Super League side Catalans Dragons.
“I spoke to the French captain (Benjamin Garcia) last night and couldn’t understand him,” Pearce told The Daily Telegraph. “I’ve got a lot of work to do.”
Pearce and his rugby league great father Wayne last night helped launch new sport-only subscription news site CODE at Sydney’s hottest new venue, Shell House.
He said CODE would help keep him on top of Aussie sport, particularly rugby league, when on the other side of the world.
“I’m more of a footy head but I’m keen to get into some other sports,” he said. “This will be great to keep me across everything.”
Pearce Senior said while also staying across league, he likes to keep up on other sport news. “Sport is the cornerstone of Australian culture,” he said.
“It is a great idea, probably long overdue. I like to know a little about a whole lot of sports so this concept is fantastic.” CODE will feature stories from across News Corp’s publishing and broadcast assets, including The Times and The Wall Street Journal. SuperCoach+, Match Centres, bespoke podcasts and the latest video from Fox Sports and Kayo will also form part of CODE’s offering, available via a stand-alone web-and mobile site at www.codesports.com.au and via the CODE app.
