NoMad may have been hit hard during the first year of the pandemic – with multiple restaurants and hotels in the small neighborhood north of Madison Square Park closing – but the area is now springing back to life.
Later this year, the Ritz Carlton Nomad and Virgin hotels are set to launch, drawing a host of new restaurant openings.
NoMad is the new “it” area, Michelin starred chef, Hiroki Odo, owner of o.d.o and HALL, just opened The Gallery and Sushi Muse on West 20th, told The Post.
“I feel that the NoMad district is trending because of the new influx of flashy bars, restaurants, and lounges,” he said. “The area, alongside the Flatiron District, has become a hotspot for new and exciting culinary adventures with new luxury condos, beautiful landmark buildings, and many office buildings help to create heavy foot traffic.”
There’s a reason hotels like The Ritz Carlton and Virgin have flocked to NoMad, added Evgeny Zhuravlev, founder of L’Adresse Restaurant Group, who just opened L’Adresse NoMad on Broadway and 26th Street.
“NoMad … combines all three aspects of the New York City: offices, residential, dining and tourism elements,” he noted.
The tasty new restaurants hitting NoMad, which is bound by East 25 in the South, East 30th to the North, Sixth Avenue to the West, and Lexington to the East, include:
A mix of art space and culinary creativity, the menu highlights dishes that use seasonal ingredients, as well as omakase sashimi, sushi roll and Japanese barbecue selections.
This contemporary restaurant “pulls inspiration from European culinary traditions and modern American techniques, fusing ingredients and flavor profiles from both food cultures into a dynamic menu of approachable and thoughtfully crafted dishes,” according to Zhuravlev.
Little Mad: The restaurant group behind Her Name Is Han and Izakaya Mew, opened Little Mad, helmed by former Le Coucou chef Sol Han, and fuses Korean flavors with French and Italian influences.
This Korean-American restaurant with locations in Midtown Manhattan and Union Square, opened a third outpost on Sixth Avenue and West 28th Street, serving small plates and open, taco-shaped hand rolls.
The second-floor venue at 6 West 28th Street consists of a lounge area and private karaoke rooms, where patrons can order a short menu of Korean and Japanese finger foods.
The vegetarian restaurant chain Planta opened its first New York City location at 15 West 27th Street.
