North Shropshire MP Helen Morgan tells Boris Johnson to go

BORIS Johnson must resign over a ‘disgraceful’ attempt to apologise for breaking rules around public gatherings, according to North Shropshire MP Helen Morgan.

The Prime Minister addressed the House of Commons before PMQ’s to give what many political commentators have called a non-apology for Mr Johnson’s assessment that he thought he was attending a work event.

The latest ‘party’ scandal broke on Monday night when an email, leaked to ITV News, appeared to show a ‘bring your own booze’ invite to staff for a gathering at 10 Downing Street in May 2020.

This came after pictures emerged prior to Christmas of staff enjoying drinks and gathering together in the gardens of the seat of government, which was against strict lockdown rules at the time.

Mrs Morgan did not hold back in her view of the PM’s statement to the House on Wednesday.

She said: “After an embarrassing and shameful week for Boris Johnson, this was a truly disgraceful attempt at an apology.

“This simply won’t cut it with people in Shropshire who are rightly angry and furious at the Prime Minister’s arrogant rule breaking.

“Johnson has lied to us all and for that reason, it is time he resigned.

“Conservative MPs should be showing him the door and the public won’t forgive them for standing by him after this.”

Mr Johnson is waiting on the outcome of an investigation by senior civil servant Sue Gray as to whether he attended a party at Downing Street after he was pictured holding a quiz.
