A COVID-19 testing site in a Sydney hot spot has been repeatedly smashed by vandals, police say.

The testing spot in Sydney’s Warriewood suburb on the northern beaches was vandalised three times in one week.

Staff arrived to find smashed glass and ripped-down rain shelters on Sunday morning and again on Monday.

“Every night there’s smashed bottles, and last night they completely destroyed the (State Emergency Services) tent,” local volunteer Dooley Ellis told the 2GB radio station.

“It’s just atrocious.”

The testing site on Pittwater Road is within the northern zone of the Northern Beaches Local Government Area, a locality that includes the Avalon suburb that is at the centre of a current COVID-19 outbreak of more than 140 cases.

Stay-at-home orders are in place for the area, which means residents are only allowed to leave home for essential reasons such as exercising. Outdoor gatherings are limited to five people.

Furthermore, nobody is allowed to enter the area under the current health rules.

Police have opened an investigation into the incidents.

“Police remain on site this morning conducting inquiries,” a police spokesman said on Monday.
