Victorians will be able to host Christmas gatherings inside their homes this year, Premier Daniel Andrews has announced in welcome news for the state.
From December 13, residents will be allowed up to 30 visitors to their home over the course of a single day.
“That is not 30 for lunch and 30 for dinner – it is 30 across the course of the day,” Mr Andrews cautioned.
“I know that will be a large enough number for some families, and for others they will need to do some juggling.”
Children and other dependents are included in this number, except for babies under 1 year old.
“That is a big step forward, and I don’t know that we could two or three or four months ago, ever have really been that confident that we would get to that number,” the premier said.
“It is a testament to the amazing job that Victorians have done and continue to do.”
