Off-duty NYPD cop Yvonne Wu allegedly shot ex-girlfriend and new partner

According to reports, an off-duty NYPD cop identified as Yvonne Wu allegedly shot both her ex-girlfriend, Jenny Lee, and the ex’s new partner.

The shooting is said to have happened on Wednesday (October 13th) evening. Here’s everything that you need to know.

Who is Yvonne Wu?

31-year-old Yvonne Wu is an NYPD officer, accused of injuring her former girlfriend and killing another woman.

Reports say that Wu is an officer in the 72nd District, which covers the Park Slope and Sunset Park areas of Brooklyn, and has worked for the NYPD for five and a half years.

The Daily Mail reports that the off-duty cop waited for the two women to return to a Bensonhurst, Brooklyn home before starting to shoot.

The same outlet revealed that Wu and 23-year-old Jenny Li had been in a two-year long relationship and lived together before splitting last month.

Yvonne Wu is now reportedly in custody.

Who are the victims of the shooting?

The alleged victims of the shooting are 23-year-old Jenny Li, who Wu was romantically involved with, and 24-year-old Jamie Liang.

Liang was the new partner of Wu’s ex, according to reports.

It is believed that both women were harmed, with Li suffering serious injuries and Liang being shot dead.

NBC New York reports that the two women were rushed to Maimonides Hospital, where the 24-year-old was pronounced dead. Jenny Li is expected to recover.

Assistant Chief Michael Kemper responds

Assistant Chief Michael Kemper held a press conference on the same evening.

Kemper said: “We believe it is domestic in nature. We believe all three parties knew each other.”

Speaking of the gun used during the shooting, the Assistant Chief disclosed: “There’s a very good chance it is her service weapon.”

“The whole incident is horrible, but these cops performed great, just heroically, and this is what NYPD cops come upon every single day. Is this an incident they would want to come upon? No. But unfortunately throughout their careers they come upon this.”
