LAURA Peel finsihed fifth in the final of the women’s aerials as the Aussies missed a medal in the event for the first time in five Games.
Danielle Scott went into the final 12 ranked 5th but crashed her only jump on Friday to miss advancing to the final 9.
Peel scraped through in the final spot but then finished third in the top 9 section as several big guns crashed out.
Peel jumped fourth of the six in the final and the path was clear for a medal as two previous athletes crashed. She upped her degree of difficulty but Peel was unable to nail her landing and ended fifth.
All competitors struggled to cope with strong and flukey winds.
“It was tough out there tonight,” said Peel. “The first two runs I was pretty slow and we were really struggling with the wind out there.”
