Jeff Ross, the director behind PS4’s underrated Days Gone, has revealed during a chat with David Jaffe that he once pitched an open-world Resistance game to Sony, but they shot the idea down along with a potential Days Gone 2.
He also revealed that Syphon Filter was another IP that the company could potentially utilise, but Ross admitted he wasn’t interested in rebooting that particular franchise.
Are there any other IPs that we have that we can use? And the only ones we had was Syphon Filter. But honestly I have zero ideas on how to reboot Syphon Filter, I was not interested in that at all. The pitch I was making was open world Resistance (which) would be fucking rad.
All these open world loops that we figured out. It almost wrote itself with Resistance or so many aspects of that property that lends itself to open world gameplay. They weren’t interested in that either, and I don’t know how well it sold. They were interested in almost anything but a Days Gone 2.
Ross revealed earlier this week that Days Gone had sold eight million copies worldwide in just 19 months, despite the fact Sony chiefs had given his team the impression the game wasn’t a success.
Developer Sony Bend Studio is now working on a brand new IP, although details on the project have yet to be confirmed.
