MADISON (WXOW) — On Wednesday, the Wisconsin Department of Health Services said another 43,000 people started their COVID-19 vaccine series in the past day.
Numbers from DHS show 1,987,677 people in the state have received at least one dose of the vaccine. That translates to 34.1 percent of state residents according to DHS. The figures show that 1,227,807 people, or 21.1 percent of the state’s population, are now fully vaccinated for COVID-19.
In Western Wisconsin to date, 98,979 people have received at least one dose of the vaccine. It equates to 36.1 percent of the total number of people in Western Wisconsin. 64,200, or 23.4 percent, have completed the vaccine series.
The DHS figures show that 47,459 people or 40.2 percent of residents of La Crosse County have had at least one dose of the vaccine. 29,495 people in La Crosse County or 25 percent completed the vaccine series according to the state.
In other counties, these are the percentages for the population receiving the first dose of a COVID vaccine: Monroe: 28.1 percent, Vernon: 33.6 percent, Trempealeau: 38.6 percent, and Jackson: 30.5 percent.

According to numbers from the Wisconsin Department of Health Services on Wednesday, there were five additional deaths from the virus.
The total number of deaths in the state from the virus is now at 6,653.

DHS also reported 25 people were newly hospitalized.
As of Tuesday, 275 COVID-19 patients were being treated in Wisconsin hospitals, an increase of twenty-nine from the day before.
Of those, 75 people are in the ICU according to the Wisconsin Hospital Association. That’s up eleven from yesterday.
There have been 727 positive COVID-19 tests since yesterday in Wisconsin and 2,421 negative results.

Of all positive cases reported since the pandemic began, 567,185, or 97.5 percent, are considered recovered.

The Wisconsin Department of Health Services said that nine people are hospitalized in the Western Region of the state, which is comprised of Buffalo, Trempealeau, Jackson, La Crosse, Monroe, Vernon, and Crawford counties. That is the same number as the previous day. One of the patients is currently in intensive care.
