Palestinian factions have rejected a US draft resolution due to be put to a vote at the UN Security Council on Monday, warning that the proposal to deploy an international stabilisation force in Gaza amounts to a new form of foreign control.
In a statement circulated by Palestinian faction offices in Algeria on Sunday, the groups urged Algiers to take a firm stance against “the ongoing efforts inside UN corridors to pass the US draft resolution related to deploying international forces in the Gaza Strip”.
The joint statement described the draft as “a dangerous development” and said it “represents, under various titles, a new attempt to impose another form of occupation on our land and people, and to legitimise foreign trusteeship over the future of our national cause”.
The factions appealed directly to Algeria, saying they had issued “a sincere and fraternal appeal to the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria, its government and people, to continue adhering to its principled positions supporting Palestine, and its steadfast rejection of any projects targeting Gaza’s identity and our people’s right to self-determination”.
The groups warned that “any foreign intervention in Gaza, whatever its label, is a violation of our national sovereignty and a continuation of our people’s suffering”, adding that “the only path to achieving security and stability is ending the occupation, lifting the siege, and respecting our people’s will and its inalienable rights”.
They said Algeria’s historic position “represents the true hope for our people in confronting this project that seeks to impose a new occupation under an international cover”, describing Algeria as “the genuine expression of the free popular Arab stance”.
The factions also called on Arab and Islamic states “to stand against this resolution, reject any form of trusteeship or foreign intervention, and defend Gaza’s right to freedom, dignity and independence”.
The US resolution is expected to go to a vote on Monday after Washington pressed members to support the plan, which has faced objections from Russia and China, alongside a competing proposal submitted by Moscow.
Diplomatic sources anticipate the draft may pass with the required nine votes, with Russia and China possibly abstaining.
According to a version seen by AFP, the U.S. text endorses President Donald Trump’s Gaza plan, which resulted in a ceasefire on 10 October after two years of war.
The draft would authorise an “international stabilisation force” in the Gaza Strip and grant a Trump-chaired “Peace Committee” a mandate to administer the enclave temporarily until December 2027.
