Piers Morgan says his ex-wife speaks better of him than Susanna Reid did

2 Piers Morgan Good Morning Britain - TodayHeadline

Piers Morgan has confessed how disappointed he was at Susanna Reid’s “frosty” statement following his explosive departure from Good Morning Britain.

The show’s now former presenter, 55, has said he was surprised over “stony-faced” Susanna’s statement and has hinted that even his ex-wife and mother to his three sons, Marion Shalloe, provided more support following his exit.

Piers left the ITV breakfast show after storming off set just hours earlier following a fierce war of words with weatherman Alex Beresford.

The pair had a heated disagreement regarding Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey.

Piers had labelled the huge TV event as a two-hour “trash-a-thon” and said he was “sickened” by some of the comments the Sussexes made.

Some of the most sensational accusations – which Piers said he didn’t believe – included Meghan saying a member of the royal family had expressed “concerns” over Archie’s skin colour while she also said that a lack of support from the Firm left her feeling suicidal.

And writing for the Daily Mail in his first column since his exit Piers has explained how he felt after seeing Susanna on the show.

He said: “At 6.30am, I turned on GMB to see what my ‘TV wife’ Susanna would say about our sudden divorce.

“Stony-faced, she read a short, rather frosty statement: Piers and I have disagreed on many things and that dynamic was one of the things viewers loved about the programme.

“‘He is without doubt an outspoken, challenging, opinionated, disruptive broadcaster.

“‘He has many critics, and he has many fans. You will know that I disagreed with him about Meghan’s interview.

“‘He himself clarified his comments about her mental health on the show yesterday. There are many voices on GMB, and everyone has their say.

“‘But now Piers has decided to leave the programme. Some of you may cheer and others will boo.

“‘He has been my presenting partner for more than five years and during Brexit and the pandemic and other issues he has been a voice for many of you, and a voice that many of you have railed against.

“‘It is certainly going to be very different but shows go on and so on we go.’

“Jeez, even my real ex-wife talks more fondly about me than that (and, in fact, did so overnight in a very supportive message).”

However, Piers later admitted that his former co-host had rang him and “apologised for the tone of voice in her chilly goodbye”.

He claims to have then replied by apologising for leaving her “in the lurch”.

The pair have agreed to a celebratory dinner to mark their five year stint together on the show.
