Sony has announced on the PlayStation Blog that it will no longer offer TV and movie purchases on the PlayStation Store from August 31, 2021.
Writing on the Blog, Vanessa Lee from Sony Interactive Entertainment stated that “we’ve seen tremendous growth from PlayStation fans using subscription-based and ad-based entertainment streaming services on our consoles.” Due to that shift “we have decided to no longer offer movie and TV purchases and rentals through PlayStation Store as of August 31, 2021.”
Content users have already purchased can still be accessed for on-demand playback from the PlayStation Store and watched on their PS4, PS5, and mobile. Lee ends the blog post by stating “We thank our fans for their continued support, and we look forward to further enhancing the entertainment experience on PlayStation.”
