Newly released bodycam footage captures the admitted killer of 33-year-old Sarah Everard falsely claiming to authorities that he’d been forced to kidnap the marketing executive by a gang. The video was released along with other materials on Wednesday, September 29, during the first of two days of sentence hearings at the Central Criminal Court of England and Wales, known as the Old Bailey. Couzens is to be sentenced on Thursday. This footage, recorded on March 9 at Couzen’s home in Deal, Kent, shows him handcuffed as he answers questions from officers. After initially denying any knowledge of Everard’s disappearance, Couzen launches into a false story about being pressured by an “immigrant gang,” who he claimed he had delivered Everard to out of fear they would otherwise harm his own family. The Old Bailey also heard new details on Wednesday about how the then Met Police officer made use of COVID-19 lockdown enforcement at the time to falsely arrest Everard on March 3. Couzens later admitted to that kidnapping, as well as the rape and murder of Everard. Credit: Metropolitan Police via Storyful
