Qantas has selected Darwin as its new transit hub for direct flights to London.
Darwin Airport will operate five flights a week in and out of Australia, and include connecting flights from Melbourne and Sydney.
The first is expected to start on November 14 from Sydney via Darwin to London, with a travel time of 17 hours and 20 minutes.
Flights from Melbourne are scheduled to begin on December 18.
The arrangement was made after Western Australia refused to reopen its domestic border as agreed under the national plan.
