Director Luv Ranjan’s romantic-comedy ‘Th Jhoothi Main Makkaar’ is playing in theaters and doing well at the box office. The Ranbir Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor-fronted movie has crossed 100 crores worldwide in the first 5 days and is looking good for an uninterrupted run for 2-3 weeks.
Produced by T-Series and Luv Films, TJMM has been on the radar of a section of people for its box office collection and budget. There are rumors circulating on social media that Ranbir has charged 50 crores for the film and the budget of the movie is 200 crores.
However, during a recent interview with NDTV, director Luv Ranjan revealed that the actor hasn’t charged his remuneration yet for TJMM. In a viral video clip from the interview, Ranjan could be heard saying that the actor hasn’t failed him over the last four years during the making of the film and that he hasn’t taken his fees knowing the reality.
Going by Ranjan’s words, it looked like he was in some sort of financial trouble and Ranbir understood that. This is not the first time Ranbir has done that. He also reportedly did not charge his fees for director Ayan Mukerji’s “Brahmastra Part 1: Shiva” which later grossed over 430 crores worldwide.
Ranbir Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor starrer ‘Tiger Jhoothi Main Makkaar’ released on Holi and it was expected to do very well considering cast, genre, record of director and above all glowing reviews. But film managed only average numbers to put it mildly despite growth on Saturday and Sunday.
TJMM opened well on Wednesday and then dipped on Thursday and had slim growth on Friday. Then film did jump yesterday and today it has scored its highest total of the run.
Film grew by 10-13% on Sunday after good Saturday but still this is strictly average. Film collected close to 17.08 cr nett today thus taking its 5 day extended weekend total to 70.24 cr nett.
Today film has litmus test today and to be fair, film didn’t pass it as it dropped big on Monday. Film collected at best 6.05 cr nett which is big drop from day one and even 30% drop from day two which was lowest day for the film.
Ideally film could had collected close to 90-95 cr nett minimum for better trajectory going forward over weekend. Still Monday was the key as good hold around 80% in comparison to opening day needed for any chance of good trending for couple of weeks. But 6.05 cr nett was a disappointing number.
