Egypt President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi met on Saturday with Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly and Minister of Civil Aviation Sameh al-Hefny to discuss the status of developing the nation’s civil aviation sector.
President Sisi was briefed on the status of developing the civil aviation system, including air navigation, aircraft fleets, airports, and human resources, based on a clear and comprehensive strategy.
During the meeting, aspects of the aviation system were presented, including ongoing work to modernize airport infrastructure, increase their capacity, and improve passenger services, in addition to enhancing airport capacities and promoting private sector participation in airport management and operation.
The Spokesperson for the Egyptian Presidency, Ahmed Fahmy, said the meeting touched on efforts to keep the aviation sector up with the continuous growth in the flow of tourism to Egypt.
This requires continuous advancement of the infrastructure that also meets environmental standards.
This is in addition to working on sustainable fuel projects, a key future pillar for reducing carbon emissions and promoting environmental efficiency.
President Sisi ordered to take the necessary measures to encourage private sector participation in the development efforts of the aviation sector and to continue intensified efforts on the system as a whole, including Cairo International Airport, with the aim of doubling its capacity to 60 million passengers annually, up from 30 million, in line with international standards and to support comprehensive economic development in line with Egypt’s Vision 2030.
