Very easy and inexpensive to get a license, pretty easy to find a brokerage to sign with because many will take just about anyone, startup cost is low, and keeping a license is pretty much nothing. It’s a very attractive industry to part timers, dreamers, lazy people and those who are looking to make a lot of money and do as little work as possible.
The reality is that none of those types will make it, because you get out of the business what you put into it, and aside from these types having issues with professional manner, compensation is directly tied to production. You don’t get a closing, you don’t get paid, and most people don’t have the stamina or the resolve to get through the startup phase where they are basically working for nothing. They either quit because it didn’t fall out of the sky, or end up quitting because they weren’t suited for self employment.
