Toronto | Traditional territories of the Mississaugas of the Credit, the Anishinaabeg, the Haudenosaunee, and the Wendat – This re-announcement from Ministers Dabrusin and Hodgson is hot air. Canada’s so-called “climate competitiveness strategy” isn’t much of a strategy at all and may even lead to an increase in emissions by incentivising more LNG and fossil hydrogen, and extending the CCUS tax credit. As we head into COP30, this government, headed by PM Carney, hasn’t produced a credible plan to fight climate change or carve out a niche for Canada in the low-carbon economy. It’s just more performance.
Canada should have to answer some tough questions in Brazil, namely is this government still committed to the goals of the Paris Agreement or have they caved to fossil fuel lobbyists?
Canadians deserve a serious, detailed, costed and vetted plan that actually lays out the full extent of what Canada intends to do in response for our “moral responsibility” to fight climate change, to use PM Carney’s words.
