Paul Gallen questioned his 10th round stoppage in the immediate aftermath of his defeat to Justis Huni, but it was another member of his team who really took referee John Cauchi to task.
In previously unheard audio, Gallen’s adviser Peter Mitrevski can be heard arguing with Cauchi, who chose to stop the fight after the former league star hit the deck with less than two minutes left in the Australian heavyweight title showdown on Wednesday night.
“I’m not going to let it go, mate,” Cauchi can be heard telling a disappointed Gallen, who had made it back to his feet and wanted to continue. “I’m not going to let it go.”
For many watching on, it was the right call. And arguably could have come sooner.
But that didn’t stop Mitrevski and Cauchi going back and forth in a stunning exchange caught on the microphones, with the referee appearing to push Mitrevski.

Cauchi: “I don’t want to talk to you.” [Cauchi pushes Mitrevski] “Get out…”
Mitrevski: “Don’t touch me. I’ll f***ing knock your head.”
Cauchi: “Try it. Try it.”
