Director Joel Souza, who was shot in the shoulder during filming of the western movie Rust, is recovering at home as filming is halted due to tragic events which claimed life of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins

Rust director Joel Souza has appeared outside his California home with his arm in a sling – over a week after he was shot in the shoulder by Alec Baldwin on the movie’s set.
The filmmaker appeared withdrawn and casually dressed as he stepped out to the sunshine in Palo Alto while wearing the black sling, a flannel shirt and shorts.
It is only the second time Souza has been seen in public since the devastating incident in which cinematographer Halyna Hutchins was also shot and tragically died.
Earlier this week he was pictured in the passenger seat of a car parked in his home town and appeared upset and was wiping his eye, reported The New York Post.
Souza, who was treated from the Christus St. Vincent Regional Medical Center the day after the shooting, later gave a statement saying: “I am gutted by the loss of my friend and colleague, Halyna … My thoughts are with her family at this most difficult time.”
Both Souza and 42-year-old Hutchins, were shot with a single bullet fired by actor Alec Baldwin as they filmed the Western in Santa Fe, New Mexico on Oct. 21.
Since the tragedy Baldwin has fully cooperated with the police and an investigation remains ongoing and no charges have been filed.
Following the tragedy, Baldwin has been keeping a low profile in the small town of Manchester in Vermont.
The star has reportedly been taking time off work following the heartbreaking incident.
He has since spoken out about the incident, issuing a statement on Twitter.
“There are no words to convey my shock and sadness regarding the tragic accident that took the life of Halyna Hutchins, a wife, mother, and deeply admired colleague of ours,” he wrote.
“I’m fully cooperating with the police investigation to address how this tragedy occured and I am in touch with her husband, offering my support to him and his family. My heart is broken for her husband, their son, and all who knew and loved Halyna.”
It was confirmed that filming on the Rust movie had been paused indefinitely following Halyna’s untimely death.
