Sarah Ferguson and Prince Andrew married on 23 July 1983 after a very brief romance which saw them engaged after just six months.
The royals have two children together, Princess Beatrice, 31, and Princess Eugenie, 29.
However, things weren’t meant to be and they split ten years later in 1996, remaining close friends.
Last week, they reportedly headed on a family holiday with their daughters and some royal enthusiasts hoped this meant they are back together.
After marrying Andrew, Sarah quickly became a popular royal and has managed to keep fans hoping she will one day rejoin the family.
When the couple were together, they were given a huge stamp of approval by a very important royal, according to the biography, Sarah: HRH The Duchess of York.
In the book, royal biographer, Ingrid Seward, said: “The Queen Mother liked her at once.
“The Queen Mother went further and said that any girl of 26 would have had previous boyfriends; it was perfectly natural and she thought Sarah would be ideal for Andrew.”
It was also reported the Queen had a soft spot for the Duchess of York when they first met.
Speaking in her book, Ingrid said: “The Queen liked Sarah. They got along well. Their mutual enjoyment of country pursuits, their love of dogs and horses, provided them with a common ground.”
Although Sarah has not been part of the Royal Family for over twenty years, she could still share this bond with the Queen.
Sarah Ferguson recently joined Prince Andrew on a trip to the royal residence, Balmoral Castle, where the Queen spends her summers.
It is likely the Queen and Sarah were at the accommodation at the same time which means the monarch is likely to still get on well with the Duchess.
However, Prince Philip reportedly has not forgiven Sarah for her divorce with Prince Andrew.
