Former Alaska governor Sarah Palin’s husband of 31 years is seeking a divorce, citing “incompatibility of temperament”.
Documents believed to be filed by Todd Palin, but which only identify the couple by the initials TMP and SLP, suggest he is trying to end his marriage to the 2008 Republican vice presidential nominee.
The divorce filing refers to “an incompatibility of temperament between the parties such that they find it impossible to continue to live together as man and wife”.
The document also gives initials which match the couple’s youngest child, Trig Paxon Van Palin.
Sarah and Todd Palin met at high school and married in 1988, nearly two decades before Ms Palin became governor of Alaska.
Todd Palin, 54, was a commercial fisherman and also worked an oil field job.
In a surprise move, Ms Palin was picked as John McCain’s running mate in the 2008 presidential election – which they lost to Barack Obama and Joe Biden.
Mr Palin became known as “Alaska’s first dude” and in a speech to the Republican National Convention, Ms Palin said: “We met in high school, and two decades and five children later, he’s still my guy.”
The diovrce filing believed to be from Mr Palin suggests he is seeking joint custody of their youngest child, who is still living at home.
Paperwork has been filed to keep the divorce confidential and protect the child’s privacy.
Mr Palin also wants an “equitable division” of marital debts and assets.
The Palin family are no stranger to controversy and scandal.
Eldest son Track was accused of punching his then-girlfriend in 2016 and pleaded guilty to misdemeanour possession of a firearm while intoxicated.
More recently, he served less than two months at a halfway house after being convicted of assaulting his father in 2017.
Members of the Palin family were also involved in a brawl at a house party in 2014, during which daughter Bristol Palin allegedly punched the host several times in the face.
As a teenager, Bristol fell pregnant and featured on MTV series Teen Mom.
