Sean Strickland is back to his very best, scoring a comfortable win over Jack Hermansson, but his career was very nearly ended in a 2018 motorcycle accident. Just how badly injured was he?
Through the first four rounds of their Middleweight bout, Sean Strickland had the measure of Jack Hermansson.
The American bettered his rival, although Hermansson came back in the final round – it was not enough to sway the judges.
Strickland was awarded a split victory on points by with two judges scoring it 49-46, 49-46 in his favour, and one 49-47 in Hermansson’s way.
He is closing in on a title fight, having defeated #6 ranked Hermansson and remaining undefeated in the Middleweight class.
But Sean Strickland’s career was nearly ended in a motorcycle accident in 2018 before it really got going.

In December 2018, Strickland was riding his motorcycle home from a sparring session.
He hit a vehicle, which left him unconscious for around three hours after the 45mph impact.
The rising star of the Octagon was forced to undergo extensive knee surgery after the motorcycle accident – although he has since fully recovered.
One step closer to title glory
Strickland, who was ranked seventh in the class prior to defeating Hermansson, has his eyes set on a title bout.
Four of the top five MMA Middleweights all fight next weekend – including champion Israel Adesanya.
The fight about Hermansson was Strickland’s first MMA contest since a comfortable win over Uriah Hall in July 2021.
His professional record now stands at 28 bouts, with a 25-3 record.
Strickland has only been defeated three times since his debut in 2008.
Santiago Ponzinibbio, Kamara Usman, and Elizeu Zaleski dos Santos are the three men to have beaten Sean Strickland, as of February 6th, 2022.
