The fire, burning through parched grassy hills and pushed by 100-mph winds, destroyed more than 900 homes and an estimated 100 businesses. More than 30,000 people were evacuated over several frightening hours from the towns of Louisville and Superior, as well as unincorporated areas of Boulder County, all tidy and comfortable suburbs of greater Denver.
