This bouncer might need his own personal security detail.
A teenage security guard said that he experiences near-constant sexual assault on the job from women.
“So many guys and girls get sexually assaulted working the doors, and I don’t think it gets spoken about at all,” UK resident Charlie Jeer told SWNS. The 19-year-old recently began sharing his experiences about being grabbed on the butt and genitals on TikTok, where he’s racked up more than a million views.
“I was told, going into the industry, that this might happen, but I had no idea it would be so regular,” he said of his year of experience working security. “There are countless occasions where women have come up to me and attempted to unzip my clothes or grabbed me sexually.”
While he wishes there was more awareness about the issue, however, he said it does not make him “feel like a victim” as he does maintain “some kind of control over the situation” by virtue of being in charge of the door. “If a woman’s grabbing me, I feel strong enough to get her off me, which makes me feel like less of a victim,” he added.
Still, the touching is unwanted, and many of the women who try to feel him up are brazen and unrepentant.
“Who cares about sexual assault anyway?” one woman, who he had bounced after she touched him nonconsensually three times, said as she was marched out of the venue by Jeer’s colleagues.
So far, he says he has received mostly positive feedback for opening up about being harassed by patrons — but a minority of commenters have been less than supportive. “Why does this never happen to me?” one viewer joked in the comments. “This isn’t sexual assault,” because Jeer is male, others have told him.
At the end of the day, though, Jeer says he likes the gig.
“It’s a really constructive job, I really enjoy it. There are just the occasional things that make it harder,” he said. “Ultimately doormen are there to help people. I make it a purpose of mine to make sure people feel comfortable to come up to me and ask for help.”
