APPRENTICES are being sought by a large Shropshire company as it recruits its next generation of young carers.

Coverage Care Services, a not-for-profit organisation operating 12 care homes across the county, is on the lookout for six new apprentices to join its professional team for its homes in Whitchurch and Oswestry.

Those successfully completing the 12-month long apprenticeship will be guaranteed a job and further career development and will also be rewarded with higher-than-average wages while they train.

Sam Woosnam, head of human resources at Coverage Care, said she was looking to starting the recruitment process once more as they look to move past the pandemic.

She added: “We’re absolutely delighted to be able to kickstart our apprenticeship programme again following a two-year break because of Covid.

“Working as an apprentice is a fantastic opportunity for any young person leaving school or college and looking for a career in care as it combines crucial hands-on experience and qualifications.”

Those joining Coverage Care on its apprenticeship programme will work towards a Level 2 Diploma in Care and will spend their time gaining practical insights within a care home setting alongside virtual learning.

Apprentices will be paid £7 an hour to train which is significantly higher than the £4.30 an hour national apprenticeship wage and they will also be allocated a buddy from within the organisation to support with personal development.

Sam added: “We’ve operated a very successful apprenticeship programme for many years.

“We’re very proud that many of the people who first joined us as an apprentice are still working for us today as either qualified carers or in senior management roles.

“It demonstrates our commitment to career development and ongoing training, and we are very excited about welcoming the next generation of apprentices to Coverage Care.”
