Today, April 12, thousands of Brits were spotted flooding into high street stores like Primark and TK Maxx.
As the country begins to re-open after lockdown, it’s now once again legal to go to the fashion retailers and enjoy some much-needed retail therapy.
As part of the government’s roadmap out of lockdown, non-essential stores like clothes and homeware shops and hairdressers threw open their doors.
And, some gained sizeable queues in the early hours.
But, despite it being legal to go to the shops, many have been criticising the shoppers, reports the Manchester Evening News.
Have you been out shopping today? Tell us in the comments section…
And, social media users have taken to Twitter to defend those visiting the shops.
One person wrote: “If you’re sneering at people queuing for cheap clothes, you should be thankful that you just don’t get it.
“Living in poverty is crushingly hard, take your ‘hot takes’ about Primark and TK Maxx and ‘finding local, sustainable alternatives’ and and p*ss off.”
It’s true that there are few places you can find clothing as cheap – and the pandemic has had a huge effect on many people’s finances.
“If someone wants to queue for TK Maxx or Primark today then just let them,” added another. “It’s not affecting you, is it?
“It’s not something I’d personally do but there’s no need to shame other people for doing it.
“Maybe they just need to go to a shop to feel some sense of normality again.”
While a third wrote: “Before you criticise people for queuing outside Primark, consider: 1) We’re heading into summer. Kids grow.
“It’s a fair bet that last year’s summer clothes don’t fit this year’s child.
“2) some people don’t have any means of shopping online.”

And another said: “Suspect all these people being snooty about the queues for TK Maxx this morning have never been in a TK Maxx.
“Best shop on the high street, fight me.”
So long as shoppers are following the rules around masks, social distancing and how many people are allowed into shops then they are within their rights to shop.
