The U.S. installed 8.6 GW of solar capacity between July and September 2024, according to a report released in December by the Solar Energy Industries Association. That represents a 21 percent increase compared to the same period the previous year.
According to the report, Texas and Florida led in the amount of solar installed in the first nine months of 2024, with California slipping to third place. Texas installed more than twice as much solar capacity as any other state through September 2024.
“Solar energy continues to exceed the sunniest expectations,” said Johanna Neumann, Senior Director of the Campaign for 100% Renewable Energy at Environment America Research & Policy Center. “The sooner we power our lives with the energy of the sun, the better it’ll be for our environment and our health.”
