Installing solar panels is just one of many career options in the solar energy industry.
Solar jobs can include both entry-level and advanced positions in fields as diverse as engineering, marketing, and construction.
Cynthia Finley is with the Interstate Renewable Energy Council. The group created a free online course and a career map to help people figure out how to build a career in solar.
Finley: “We really wanted to provide an opportunity for job seekers and students to explore this industry.”
The online course helps people match their skills with solar jobs, as well as find training opportunities and potential employers.
And the career map explores the diversity of solar jobs, with details like job requirements and salaries.
Finley: “And it really gives you the opportunity to dig into … all the different sectors: manufacturing, system design, project development, and installation and operation.”
The map also lays out how people can advance their solar careers.
For example, with training, a solar sales rep could be promoted to a home solar designer or eventually a solar project developer.
So as the industry grows, people with many different skill sets can find ways to build a lasting career in the clean energy economy.
