ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka’s Department of Inland Revenue has collected 1,958.08 billion rupees in 2024, up 25.1 percent from, a year ago, 1,565 million, with the most coming from income and value added tax, a media report said.
The department had collected 1,023.2 million rupees as income tax, up from 911.097 million in 2023, state-run Daily News quoted Commissioner General of Inland Revenue, Sepali Chandrasekera as saying.
Sri Lanka had collected 714.68 billion rupees as value added tax, up from 469.1 billion rupees.
Collections from the Betting and Gaming Levy was 14,923 million in 2024 up from 7,422 million rupees, which is double.
Sri Lanka had also collected 3,128 million as Share Transaction Levy from stock market transactions up from 2,478 million in 2023.
Sri Lanka’s Customs had said it also collected 1,500 billion rupees, in 2024, a record. (Colombo/Jan04/2024)
