A Starbucks customer had claimed she found a bold pick-up line written on her coffee cup by a barista who has a crush on her.
TikTok user @Ashleywilkins28 made a video of her discovery, which has racked up more than 1.5 million views.
In the clip, she turns around the disposable cup to show the phrase “secret message” written on its cardboard sleeve, with an arrow pointing down.
Lifting up the sleeve, she shows the daring comment it hides.
Instead of reading, “Careful, the beverage you’re about to enjoy is extremely hot”, the text has been scribbled out to instead show, “Careful, you’re extremely hot”.
In the caption, Ashley joked it was a “new level of pick up line” and added, “WTF Starbucks Steve”, in the text on the video.
Hundreds of people have since commented on the clip, weighing-in on whether the sneaky message was romantic or a bit weird.
One person wrote: “Starbucks Steve is smooth.”
Commenting with the laughing emoji, another person said: “What a legend he deserves a date”.
Meanwhile, other women said the trick was not original and the same message had been written on their coffee cups, or they had seen it happen to other people.
“Is this a new trend? I keep seeing it,” remarked one.
“My friend did this,” said another viewer.
When people asked Ashley if she ended up dating her Romeo coffee shop worker, she told them she wasn’t even single.
“I’m actually married funny part is my husband was there with me,” Ashley wrote.
Her comment just raised more questions about whether the romantic message was intended for her husband.
This comes after a lucky Starbucks barista was given £47,000 in “tips” when he refused to serve a woman not wearing a face mask, with a video of him standing up to her while she yelled at him going viral.
